Running Commentary: Doctor Who

In the last month, I’ve kind of given up on Doctor Who. And it’s not because I’m a shit bag who just doesn’t like fun. It’s not because I don’t like Peter Capaldi or because I just want to be edgy or anything like that. I’ve given up on it because the writing in Season 9 has been shit. Stop protesting, it has. Yes there are good moments, I’m not saying there aren’t. I’m saying that overall, the writing has been shit. And I can prove it, very very easily. Go back and watch almost any other episode from an earlier season, and there is an almost tangible difference in the quality. Blink, Day of The Doctor, Dalek, Human Nature, The Doctor’s Wife – these are episodes I’m picking at random from my memory. No, not every episode has been amazing, but most of them were better than they currently are. It’s not nostalgia or Doctor-preference or any bollocks like that, they were just…better.

But I wasn’t quite ready to give up. Not just yet. So last night, I strapped in to catch up, watching the four most recent Doctor Who Episodes; The Zygon Invasion, The Zygon Inversion, Sleep No More and Face The Raven.

Fortunately for posterity, I was also chatting online at the time. My friend also thinks the writing has been significantly worse recently, but unlike me has already seen the episodes in question.

So, for your delight and delectation, here’s the running conversation between me and my friend as I get caught up. Enjoy me (the black blur) mouthing off with my friend (the rainbow blur).

Contains gratuitous swearing, and quite a lot of typed-out screams.

Postscript: See ‘Getting Called Out’ for the aftermath on this one.
